Key Characteristics
- Not flooded (hills, convex portions of piedmont slopes, broad basin floors)
- Exposed bedrock present or surface cobbles and stones common
- Rock at lithic contact is not basalt

Hills, desert mountain slopes, flanks, and bases. Shallow to bedrock or colluvium. Large variations in soil water availability due to texture and depth and soil climate due to elevation and exposure.
